Verified History & Mission

Over Five Decades of Portuguese & Azorean Brotherhood in B.C.

Founded in 1968 in New Westminster by pioneering Azorean-Portuguese families, the Irmandade Portuguesa Do Divino Espírito Santo Cultural Society of B.C. was created to keep alive the centuries-old devotion to the Holy Spirit established by Queen Saint Isabel of Portugal.

In April 2000, our community proudly dedicated the permanent Espírito Santo Hall at 12918 112 Avenue in Surrey, BC. Built through the generosity and volunteer craftsmanship of our members, the hall stands adorned with the flags of Portugal, the Azores, British Columbia, and Canada.

📋 BC Municipal & Espírito Santo Hall Compliance

100% Smoke-Free & Vape-Free Facility: Visible signage is posted at our entrance. Under the BC Tobacco and Vapour Products Control Act, smoking or vaping (tobacco or cannabis) is strictly prohibited inside the hall and within 6 metres of all doors, windows, and air intakes.
Private Alcohol Policy (BC LCRB): The society does not sell alcohol for private rentals. If you serve alcohol to guests, you must obtain a BC Special Event Permit (specialevents.bc.ca), use Serving It Right (SIR) certified servers, and provide $2M PAL/Event Liability Insurance naming the Society as Additional Insured.
City of Surrey Noise Bylaw: Amplified music and live bands must cease by 11:00 PM; hall must be cleaned and vacated by 1:00 AM.

3 Rental Agreement & Digital Signature

1. Mandatory $1,000.00 CAD Refundable Security & Damage Deposit

A refundable security deposit of $1,000.00 CAD is required to confirm your reservation (commonly held via post-dated cheque, Interac e-Transfer, or cash). The deposit is returned within 5 business days after the event following inspection of the main hall floor, stage, tables, chairs, washrooms, kitchen, and exterior grounds.

2. Cleanliness & Facility Care

Renters must leave the hall broom-swept, tables wiped down, kitchen counters sanitized, and all garbage bagged and placed in the exterior bins. No staples, nails, or damaging tape may be applied to walls, stage curtains, or ceiling tiles.

3. Administrative Approval & Payment

No online payment is required at the time of submitting this request. Reservations are placed on Pending Hold until approved by the Society's Hall Coordinator.
